Parents Stay Informed

Please remember that as your child moves up in grade levels their class workload increases, as does their homework! Not only do I work with my students in their areas of needs, I also teach each student to be responsible for their grades, and how to self-advocate for their own educational needs. I teach them how to keep up-to-date on their assignments and grades, and why it is important to know how they are doing in each of their subjects/classes at all times. I explain that it is their responsibility to know this information and to go to their teachers (parents in the ALT program as well as their ALT teacher of record) if they have questions, concerns, or if they are missing assignments. To help both you and your child stay up-to-date on their assignments and grades, here are some valuable parent and student resources:

* SCHOOL WEBSITES: PARENT RESOURCES: POWERSCHOOL

In the District or School website, go to Parent Resources. Choose Powerschool and sign up for a parent account. This is the area where your child's teachers (in grades 6-8) post their grades for each assignment. Checking this site frequently will keep you informed as to how they are doing in their class. If you click on the class grade, another window will open up, showing you each assignment and grade that your child has up to this point. Each student in grades 6-8 has their own Powerschool account and know how to access this information as well.

* STAFF WEBSITES

In the Santee School District website, select the school location of your child's distant learning teacher. There you should find their Staff Websites. Find your child's teachers name and become familiar with their personal site. Some teachers use their website to post assignments and homework. Know if this is the case for your child's teacher. If it is, this is another option for staying informed. Each student has access to their teacher's websites as well.

* MICROSOFT TEAMS, GOOGLE CLASSROOM, GOOGLE MEET, LEXIA, SEESAW, ETC.

Ask your child's teacher which learning systems they will be using to support their students. Ask them to give you the code so that you can sign up. These programs include student assignments and links to important information.
